True precocious puberty that follows virilising disorders may occur in patients with congenital virilising adrenal hyperplasia who are initiated on glucocorticoid suppressive therapy after years of androgen exposure (such exposure causes maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, along with skeletal maturation). Likewise, patients with virilising tumours, in whom the tumours have been removed after years of virilisation, can experience central true precocious puberty.
